The Isle of Spice, Where Everything is Nice!
Travel day was yesterday! Finally!
We arrived at the airport at 7 am.
The airport was not busy so check in, baggage drop and security was
quick. This gave us plenty of time to
grab coffee and snacks for our flight to Toronto. Fast forward….since there really is not much
to say about a flight to Toronto.
Caribbean Airlines – the warmth of the
islands! We stepped onto the plane in
Toronto at 2:30pm and arrived in Grenada at 9pm. A Grenadian sitting near us on the plane was
so excited to hear about our trip and why we were visiting the isle of
spice. When we stepped out of the
airplane he said “Welcome! Smell the
sweet warm air?” Another greeting to us was “The isle of spice, where
everything is nice”
Lorin and Andrea (faculty from TAMCC)
greeted us at the airport with very beautiful smiles and excitement. The Caribbean accent sings to our Canadian
ears. Since we were all weary, we hopped
into the van, whisked through the streets and got settled at our hotel.
It will be fun to experience this island
and project with everyone. Some of the first comments from my fellow travellers
were:
“Shari, there is no land – why is the plane
so close to the water! Where are we landing?”
“OMG, we are driving on the left side of
the road!”
“It’s hot here! Do they have cold beer?”
We all are bringing a different perspective
and level of knowledge.
As I finish preparing myself for the day, I
write this short entry from my hotel room….here is my view:
And this was in my room....should I worry?
If I walked into a hotel room and saw THAT notice on the wall, I'd first freak out a little bit, then I'd make sure I slept somewhere safe that night. Probably on the ground... Away from anything that could fall on me... And anything that's sharp...
